Bastogne Town Defense - World War II Battle of the Bulge Tri-Series Playset #2
When Hitler's last great push to the West erupted out of the Ardennes forest at Christmastime, 1944, the Nazi armored thrust was blunted at the small but strategically crucial crossroads town of Bastogne, where American troops, fighting with low ammunition, few medical supplies, no winter clothing or white camouflage suits, no air cover and very little artillery support, withstood relentless attacks by massive German tank and infantry units. When asked to surrender, the American commander replied with just one word: "NUTS!" In one of America's proudest moments of military success, the beleaguered Yanks held out until Patton came to their relief. Set #2 of our Bastogne Tri Series range recreates the defense of Bastogne itself.
Strong U.S. Artillery support from within Bastogne helped immeasurably in blunting the repeated German attacks against the town. A new Nazi spearhead was tasked with breaking into Bastogne itself to silence the American guns. As in the forest fight, the town was defended only by lightly armed U.S. Paratroops. Can the Germans break through to knock out the Guns of Bastogne?
This is one of three different, but inter-connected, Toy Soldier Company Battle of the Bulge playsets. Each set can stand on its own, but when combined with the other two sets from the same range the resulting collection creates a broad canvas upon which you and your kids can rewrite history! Please note that the contents of each set are almost entirely different from the others in the range. When combining all three sets you will save a further 10% off the cost of the trio.
