Bastogne Forest Battle - World War II Battle of the Bulge Tri-Series Playset #1

As the Winter of 1944 approached, the Allies were convinced that Germany was on the verge of collapse. But Hitler thought otherwise. He had been marshaling his resources for one last big attack and launched it just days before Christmas.

Massive German armored columns poured out of the Ardennes Forest on December 16th and broke through lightly defended American outposts, planning on fighting through to the Belgian port city of Antwerp. This, the Nazis hoped, would split the British and American forces in two, throwing them on the defensive and cutting off their forward supply base as well.

But the American 101st Parachute Division and other hastily-gathered units, blunted the Nazi armored thrust at the small but strategically crucial crossroads town of Bastogne. U.S. troops, fought under severely adverse condition - they had little ammunition, few medical supplies, no winter clothing or white camouflage suits, no air cover and very little artillery support. Nevertheless they withstood relentless attacks by powerful German tank and infantry units.

Confident in their ability to overwhelm the beleaguered garrison, the Nazis demanded their surrender. The American commander replied with just one word: "NUTS!"

In one of America's proudest moments of military success, the Yanks held out until General Patton and his own armored army came to their relief.

Set #1 of our Battle of the Bulge Tri Series range recreates the heroic stand of the U.S Paratroops in the forested area around Bastogne. It is one of three different, but inter-connected, Toy Soldier Company Battle of the Bulge playsets. Each set can stand on its own, but when combined with the other two sets from the same range the resulting collection creates a broad canvas upon which you and your kids can rewrite history! Please note that the contents of each set are almost entirely different from the others in the range. When combining all three sets you will save a further 10% off the cost of the trio.
