This set is a real puzzler, since the writing on the box and instructions are wholly in Japanese. My best guess is that it represents a Samurai scout, kneeling at the feet of his seated boss, delivering a report to the senior official. Why else would a samurai be kneeling at anyone's feet, especially as the seated man wears no armor or emblem of office? All the elder man appears to be doing is listening, while smoking his pipe. The set also includes the scout's tethered horse, tied up to a nearby tree stump, and a small covered table area, with food and drink for the chief to munch on while awaiting further reports. Finally, there is a roadside mile marker and a couple of buckets.
Each Aoshima set includes a group of multi-piece figures, and several also contain accessories and larger scenic settings. Every box includes full step-by-step assembly diagrams, detailed color painting guides for decoration and photos of the set in assembled and painted form, sometimes incorporated into a larger diorama with other sets from the series. As the Era of the Samurai lasted from the Middle Ages through the middle of the 19th Century, this kit can be used over a span of 800 years.
