For toy soldiers, the Middle Ages offers a rich but uneven coverage of the many conflicts of the period. Broadly covered are such cultures and civilizations as the Muslims and Crusader States, the emerging nations such as England, France, Germany and Spain, as well as the widespread influences of the Vikings. Other cultures, such as the barbarian tribes (Goths, Vandals, Franks and Saxons, among others), the Eastern Roman Empire, the Ottomans, Russia, Eastern Europe and the Balkans, have only been sparsely featured in miniature. There are many examples of Medieval soldiers available in metal from Britains, Tradition, Alymer, Britains Replicas and Imrie Miniatures. In larger scale plastics, including 54mm, 60mm and 70mm, one can find a wide array of painted and unpainted figures and accessories, including castles, from Britains, Forces of Valor, Marx, Jecsan, Playmobil and numerous others. In HO scale, figures of the Middle Ages can be found in Hat, Orion, Zvezda and others. The Middle Ages is the period of time which passed between the fall of Rome to the Goths, and the year that the Christians completed their reconquest of Spain from the Muslims and Columbus made contact with the civilizations of the Americas. The period encompasses numerous military campaigns, civil wars and the rise and fall of dynasties.(476CE - 1492)
