Use this ensign in setups of The Thin Red Line at Balaclava. One of the most famous incidents in Britain's long military history was the stand of the 93rd (Sutherland) Highlanders at Balaclava on October 25th, 1854 (the same day as The Charge of the Light Brigade). A huge Russian attack, 25,00 strong, was aimed at overwhelming the allied British/French/Turkish/Sardinian force at Balaklava. Although some of the Russian cavalry element of the attack force was headed off by a charge of the British heavy cavalry, a still-formidable Russian cavalry force charged straight for the 93rd and their Turkish allies. Drawn up in a line only 2 ranks deep ("The Thin Red Line"), the 93rd waited until the last minute to fire, then, standing firm, poured 2 volleys at the Russians. Forced to ride around the bristling, bayonet-tipped lines of the Sutherlands and Turks, the Russians could not reform and were obliged to retreat.
These figures can also be used in other wars in which the 93rd took part, including the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812 and in The Indian Mutiny of 1857-58. The 93rd later saw service in India through 1870 in the same uniform. (Production year: 2009)
