Marines have served on shipboard since the days of Rome. Among the most famous are the Royal Marines of Nelson's Navy. These "Lobsterbacks", or "Webfeet" served on shipboard to maintain discipline, participate in boarding parties and cutting out expeditions, and to defend the vessel in ship-to-ship combat. Some would stay on deck to repel boarders and snipe at their opponents. Others would locate themselves in the "fighting tops" high above the waves, firing down on the enemy quarterdeck to thin out the opposing leadership. Nelson was killed at Trafalgar by a bullet fired by a French marine, so they were never underestimated as a deadly threat. The set contains an officer, sergeant, drummer and 5 marines in action poses.
