The 60th (Royal American) Rifles were raised in America during the Revolution. But by the time of the Napoleonic Wars, the regiment was largely populated by Germans. These expert light infantrymen could fire their weapons accurately out to 200-300 yards, 4 times the distance of the musket. They were justly feared by the French, although Napoleon refused to adopt the rifle for his own army, preferring a higher rate of fire.
