China Catches the U.S. Marines Off-Guard!

In this playset, U.S. Marines fight for their lives after the Chinese counter-attacked them in North Korea. Caught off-guard, they doggedly held on against overwhelming odds in a hilly patch of land near the Chosin Reservoir. 32 Marines are supported by 2 Sherman tanks and a 155mm Howitzer, while the 136 Communists utilize 2 field guns.

The inevitable outcome of the growing tensions between the "free" nations who had triumphed over the Axis during the Second World War and the Communist states of China and the Soviet Union which had grown in power during the same period, erupted into war on the Korean Peninsula in 1950. America forces led the fight against North Korea's invasion of its South Korean neighbor, and was joined by many other nations, fighting under the flag of the fledgling United Nations to restore the South to its pre-war borders. In many battles, small and large, the advantage see-sawed back and forth between the two sides, especially once China joined the outmatched North Korean forces.
