HAROLD'S RANGERS is fast and easy to learn, uses 1 toy soldier to represent 1 man, and has been designed with the beginner in mind. Even if you have never played a war game before, you will be playing within an hour of reading the basic rules. Movement is in inches, regulated by a chart which covers every type of infantry and cavalry soldier from ancient times through the 19th century. Combat is conducted by rolling dice and comparing them to a combat results table to determine casualties. The game is suitable for ages 12 and up, or younger with adult help in learning the basics of play. HAROLD'S RANGERS lets you play with any of your soldiers. Pick the ones you like best, using as few as one man or as many as you like, and match this force against an equal number of opposing guys. You can use traditional tactical and strategic methods to refight tiny skirmishes or larger battles, or employ your own ideas in "what if" scenarios, such as Roman soldiers vs. Zulus, or Civil War Rebs against British Regulars of the late 19th century. If you play with the basic rules, your army can consist entirely of ordinary infantry, but it can also include knights, Vikings, Zulus, peasants, rabble, pirates, pioneers, and heroes (in my own army I have such heroes as Odysseus, Zorro, Richard Sharpe, Harold Godwinson and many more.) Under the enclosed optional rules, HAROLD'S RANGERS offers you the chance to transform some or all of the figures you use into your favorite characters from real life, movies and fiction, and even make up your own characters, then have them participate on the wargame table.
