According to varying accounts of Persia's battlefield methodology, this hybrid unit of Persian infantry seems to have been the second line in their battle formation. Placed behind the archers and slingers, the Kardakes, axe-wielding heavy infantry, were established as a force meant to oppose Greek hoplites in the battle line. The unit was reinforced with lighter troops armed with javelins, who were meant to disrupt advancing troops as they closed for hand-to-hand combat. The set is cast in tan colored plastic and is in perfect scale to Expeditionary Force's Greeks, as well as Toy Soldiers of San Diego's and Fencibles' ancient-era figures. Set contains one officer, 4 javelin men and 4 Karadakes.
