Under Two Flags - Alfred P. Doolittle from Pygmalion and My Fair Lady- set 0004-a
1 gloss-painted metal 1:32nd scale figure - mint condition
George Bernard Shaw's classic comedy, "Pygmalion," written 1913, was the story of a snooty phonetics professor who took a young British flower seller of the Cockney working class and transformed her into a lady. It was later adapted into the musical, "My Fair Lady." Later still, that play was adapted into an Academy Award winning film. This model is of Eliza's good-for-nothing father, who sold his daughter to Professor Higgins for the sum of 5 British pounds.
Under Two Flags was an English manufacturer which flourished throughout the 1970s and 80's. Their tiny shop in the heart of London (just off Oxford Street) was packed to the rafters with their own figures and those of many other manufacturers. The output of this little company featured a whimsical look at English society, from the common man to the lofty height of society's elites. The colorful owner of the shop, Jock Coutts, sculpted many of their figures, as did his wife. But other items under their banner were produced by leading small manufacturers of the day.
